Although there has been a lot happening in the last two days, there is no dramatic change in Dustin’s condition. Here are relevant particulars:
- Dustin has received the tracheotomy and the PEG (feeding tube)
- the CT scan did not reveal much difference (positively or negatively) from previous scans
- the doctors have taken Dustin off of the sedative medication. He is therefore, not is as deep a coma as he has been.
- as a result, they have also turned down his ventilator. So he is breathing pretty much on his own.
- the doctors are continuing the anti-swelling medication though it sounds like this might soon have run its course
- Dustin’s GCS (Glasgow Coma Score) has not risen above a 5 — which means that things remain very serious.
As before, feel free to leave Leigh Anne and/or the family “Comments” through these posts or E-Cards through the hospital system (http://www.ghs.org/egreeting.asp NOTE: Select “Greenville Memorial Hospital”). These are a very helpful way to express your love and concern.
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” … Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?”

Hi, Leigh Anne. I am hoping that you received the E-card (with my son’s brain injury story) that I submitted through the hospital system.
As I read today’s update on Dustin, I felt led to encourage you again to not give up hope regardless of the doctors’ statements and test results. Our son endured these same procedures, and his score was low for several weeks. And as I told you previously, the doctors told us he would not come out of his coma (among other things), but they were wrong.
What a blessing it is to have so many brothers and sister in Christ praying for Dustin, you, and your family. The prayers will make a difference!

Dear Leigh Anne,
We just received the Belmont RUF update and heard about Dustin’s injury. Our hearts are grieved for you and your family in this time of pain and uncertainty. We know the Lord of Heaven and earth is able to restore Dustin - He Who knit him together in his mother’s womb and knows every part of his body. We know that nothing can separate you all from the love of Christ. We pray our Heavenly Father will heal Dustin and that He will comfort you and your family with His peace. While we wait and hope in Him, we are crying with you and praying for you.
Grace and peace in Christ,
Love,
Lisa & Harris Green

Leigh Anne,
We are praying for you all during this time. As you know, our God is BIG and He can do ANYTHING. In times like these, when it takes the Body of Christ to keep us afloat, I picture this scene: “But Moses’ hands grew weary, so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it, while Aaron and Hur held up his hands…” Exodus 17:12
Take comfort in the fact that our Lord and Savior is holding us all up by His mighty right hand. (Isaiah 41) And, as your dear husband reminded us through his sermon on Nov. 5, the Lord knows every hair on your head and He has a plan for His glory and your good.
We’ll keep praying.

Leigh Anne,
I just wanted to encourage you and to add emphasis to Hannah’s remarks. We went through a similar situation with my daughter 2 years ago(July 04). Now she is at a student at Clemson. She was barely a level 5 when she was transferred to Shepherd center in Atlanta after 21 days. If you have the opportunity to take Dustin there do not hesitate. It is an amazing place where miracles happen! Meanwhile we will pray. Pray with Dustin too. As he improves nurture his spiritual side too. I honestly believe that this makes a huge difference in recovery. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. I would love to share more but do not want to overwhelm you. Just know that our God is bigger and mighter than anyone can immagine. He listens to the prayers of His people and many are praying for Dustin - more than you will ever know!

Leigh Anne–
I’ve never personally met you or your family, but I am a Furman graduate who has been touched by the RUF ministry there, and I have been deeply moved and saddened to hear about Dustin and your family. I will continue praying along with fellow brothers and sisters at PCPC and throughout the Dallas-Ft. Worth area for you, your family, and the RUF ministries at Furman and TCU. May God’s peace rest with you and your family.

Hi, Leigh Anne,
I just wanted to let you know that I am still praying for you. I’ve typed so many things here trying to encourage you and then erased them because they seemed so inadequate, so just know that I would give you a hug with all the love of a sister in Christ if I could meet you and be with you right now. As Kay Arthur says, “Hangeth thou in there, oh baby!” We’ve got you surrounded with prayer.
love in Him,

Leigh Anne,
We wanted to let you know how much we have been praying for Dustin and you and your children. Our hearts have been saddened to hear about Dustin’s accident, but the Lord is so powerful and we pray for a miracle. We both are Seniors at TCU and were involved with the RUF ministry. Dustin had a wonderful gift of preaching the Good News of Christ, and he has blessed both our lives. We will continue to lift you up in prayer.
Love,
Waverlee and Jimmy Williams

Leigh Anne,
I wrote you earlier and told you that my daughter, Jordan, is involved w/ Furman RUF and had met w/ Dustin on Tuesday before his accident. She just arrived home for Thanksgiving and she has expressed, again, what RUF and Dustin, especially, have meant to her this year. I just want you to remember how he has touched her and that we are praying that he will soon be ministering to Jordan and the other students. Your family is constantly in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Leigh Anne, Nathan, Jacob and Meredith and of course, Dustin,
Greetings! I am Judy Kay’s mom and have definitely been following every account. Please know and I hop feel comforted in the fact that First Baptist Church of Cocoa Beach is praying for you and calling me for updates daily. One of our members, Son Ngyuen from Vietnam was in a terrible car accident 5 years ago, remained in a coma for two months. They were told he would never come out…..a little church across the street from the hospital prayed for him daily and told him all about Jesus. He went to sleep a buddhist and came to a lover of Jesus Christ. 5 years later over 20,000 have come to know Jesus in Vietnam. Dustin was absolutely correct in his providential message and we can KNOW that it will all be good because you love God and are called according to His purpose. And He alone knows the purpose.
It will bring glory and honor to Him alone because He does not share His glory with any man. You and your precious children are now under the shelter of His wonderful wings, and grace and mercy are following you all the days of your lives.
Remain….in His grip and trophies of His grace on display for the world to see.
Love,
Cheryl Babington

I want to drop a note to let you know the the congregation of the Travelers ARP Mission Church (a new mission of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church located in Travelers Rest) is praying for you and your family at this time. I have family and friends that go to Redeemer as well and was very active in RUF when I was a student at Winthrop. If their is anything our fellowship or my family can do let us know. I’m praying that God will bring quick healing and comfort at this difficult time.

I would first like to say thank you to Grant. You are appreciated beyond words for what you are doing.
I am Travis Salter, Dustin’s brother in Ohio. Our younger brother, Lance, has been at the hospital and we both want everyone to know, on behalf of Leigh Anne and the children, that the support and prayers are truly welcomed. We all appreciate the concern and love you are showing at this time. Thank you. I can tell you that sending Leigh Anne an ecard is perhaps the most important tangible support you can give right now.

Leigh Anne,
I am a member at Redeemer Pres. [TR] I was so touched by Dustin’s sermon 2 Sunday’s ago. I had several copies made and passed them along to friends who would benefit as I had.
I am praying for you and your children, and for the healing of your husband, Dustin. May God give you peace and hope and confidence in His care.

Leigh Ann,
I am one of the many people who Dustin has touched in ministry at TCU and in other parts of the country. I met Dustin through RUF and some friends who just adore him (Ryan Motola, Eric Levenhegen). I was at Eric and Jenny Levenhegen’s wedding in Minnesota, which of course Dustin officiated. My wife and I sat with Dustin at the rehearsal dinner and just cut up all night. Every time someone gave a toast, or was mentioned by the families, Dustin would lean over to us and say, “They’re good people.” We laughed all night and had a great time.
As recently as Spring of last year, I would run into Dustin at the Panther coffee shop in Fort Worth. I was working on my Master’s thesis in theology and he was very encouraging. We talked, caught up, and laughed a little bit. It, like many chance encounters I had with Dustin over my time at TCU, was a blessing and a joy.
I tell you this, just to encourage you and let you know how deeply loved your husband is. Even in chance and passing encounters, he has made a deep impact on so many. I know that he will continue to do so, and I will join with the many many others who are praying for a full recovery. I wish you and your family well, and the strength to endure this season.
God Bless you and your family. I look forward to laughing with Dustin again some day.
