There has not been much change at all these past few days in Dustin’s condition. Given the nature of the injury and the lack of significant improvement to date, any changes in his responsiveness are eagerly looked for, if also slow in coming. His eyes do open, though he is clearly not ’seeing’ and he does not respond (blink or flinch) to having a hand fly toward his face with eyes wide open. His pupils remain unresponsive — as they have been for 3 weeks now. He does at times give resistance to certain pressures but is not responding to commands. Hope and fear are two terribly similar emotions at times.

For Leigh Anne, continue to pray for endurance, wisdom, strength, peace, faith. For Dustin, continue to pray for God’s healing to take place — “when he wills, where he wills & how he wills.” For the kids, pray that God himself would be their everpresent help in times of trouble, that they would find his mercy and grace their refuge and only hope, now and always.

Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
As for me, it is good to be near God.
I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge;
I will tell of all your deeds.

    Dear Leigh Anne,

My wife and I have been fervently praying for your husband, your children, and you. We have also been praying for our friends, the Sterenbergs, whose son Jacob had a similar TBI a year ago. We prayed for his healing, and we saw our Sovereign Lord work in awesome ways in Jacob’s life. He brought Jacob out of a seemingly endless coma, and has been continually healing him ever since. Please know that this experience greatly strengthened our will, providing us with great resolve to pray unabashadly for your husband’s healing, and the Lord’s comfort for you and your children. Please know that our hearts, minds, and souls are imploring the Lord for you, and we will wait patiently to see what our awesome God does.

    Much Love in Christ,

    john…

    Leigh Anne,

It has been years since we’ve seen you guys, but it seems like only yesterday when Dustin and I were sharing a small room together. We just heard about Dustin’s journey, but we will be on our knees daily praying for him, you and your beautiful family.

    Doug

Praying for you every day and thinking of Dustin and you often. You are on my heart and I continue to have amazing hope and faith in Christ for Dustin and His healing. Nothing is out of the realm of possible for our beautiful Lord Jesus to accomplish. Prayer is powerful and effective. Many are going to the throne….Be encouraged. In His Power and Love, Shar Larson

  5. Gerry Wheaton Says:

    Dear Leigh Ann,

Our names are Gerry and Gerry Wheaton and we’re from Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Concord, MA. Last Sunday we had a guest preacher, Bradley Barnes who is with RUF at Harvard Univ. in Cambridge, MA. He began the sermon by telling us about the plight of your dear family since Nov. 8th and then he prayed beautifully and compassionately for Dustin and your shole family. Bradley also asked us to lift you all up before our Lord, Jesus Christ, today and in the coming weeks.

Last night at our regular bible study meeting we related your story to our group and we prayed for you. The irony of this is that our host/leader is an avid cyclist (even rode cross country a couple of years ago) and he was especially interested in this story because he had a terrible bike accident a couple of years ago which almost killed him. George was riding near his home and his bicycle went over something in the road and the bike flipped, broke in half and threw him over the handlebars onto the road. Fortunately he was wearing a helmut and didn’t sustain any significant head trauma, but the vertebrae in his neck had great damage. But for the grace of God, his neck wasn’t broken, but it was in terrible shape. He went through months of therapy and had to wear a collar for almost a year. The healing was a VERY SLOW process. George really empathized with Dustin and I’m sure he will be lifting him up in his daily prayers.

Keep looking up, Leign Ann, and know that you all are loved and prayed for regularly.

    God bless.

  6. Michele Harder Says:

    Dearest Leigh Anne,

I didn’t take us long to love you and Dustin very much, even though we only knew y’all a few months.

We pray for you daily and also when we think of you throughout the day (which is often).

We pray that the loyal love of our God who calls into existence things which do not exist, may comfort and encourage you in the days ahead. May the GOd of all comfort comfort you and your precious children throughout this healing process.

Much more is in our hearts, as we remain, faithful to you and yours in prayer,

    Michele and J. D. Harder

  7. Sandi Prater Says:

    Dear Leigh Anne,

I just found out about Dustin’s accident. My heart is so sad that your family is having to go through this difficult time. You and Dustin are an inspiration to Weyman and me. When I think back to when you were first married, I remember Dustin asking so many questions about life and who God really is.

What I love most about Dustin is that he went to great extremes and sacrifice to find his answers, and God has blessed him for it. What I love about you the most is that you went with him….willingly. Dustin is wise beyond his years, with a humble and sincere heart. You are the role model for every wife. Your sweet spirit radiates the humility and joy of Christ. You have given your life as an offering to the Lord, and I can only imagine the lives impacted for eternity through your family. My prayer for you is that Christ will reveal more of himself to you as you travel this dark road. I am praying believing God for a miracle for Dustin, and for God’s grace and mercy to be with you all.

    My Dearest Friend–
I tried calling you a few times this weekend. I have been praying more these past few days since I found out than I have in a long time. I have my church and my grandmother’s church praying for you and the kids and of course Dustin.
As I was praying I was reminded over and over that God works miracles. The more I prayed for you, the more that I felt peace b/c God is watching over you!
Dustin has been on my mind so much lately! I had forgotten about the weekend at L.U. when he taught me how to drive a 5 speed..haha. Well, he handed me his keys and told me to practice but not bring his car back tore up :) :)
Leigh–I love and miss y’all so much! If you need anything, please call. I can be there w/in one day.

    Love always,
    Tisha

  9. Cathy Holbrook Says:

    Dear Leigh Anne,

I don’t know if you remember us, but we were lucky enough to love and enjoy Dustin as if he was one of our boys when you were all in college together. He came home from college for several Christamses with Jack and they worked together–He brought us so much joy and laughter whenever he visited with Jack ..I don’t think you all realize how much the Lord used you both to not only bring Jack to the Lord, but then you even introduced him to his future wife, our lovely Cindy….I love you both and though haven’t seen you for years I want you to know we are holding you, Dustin, and your precious children in our prayers daily..Our whole family and our church family is praying for you all.
