Thursday, 15 February

Dustin left the hospital Tuesday evening and returned to The Plaza at Ridgemar facility.  He has recovered from his pneumonia and other infections.  Please pray that Dustin remains infection-free.  The brain-trauma specialist determined that it was not a good time to assess Dustin.

Leigh Anne and the kids are settling back into Fort Worth.  Still, they have many decisions to make concerning housing, transportation, and finances.  Pray for wisdom for Leigh Anne as she tries to determine what is best.

Some people have asked for Dustin’s address at The Plaza.  His address is: 6600 Lands End Court / Fort Worth TX 76116

    Dear Dustin,

    This message is for you and I hope that someone will read this to you. I have been emailing Leigh Anne and encouraging her as much as I can.

    We have never met but you must be an amazing guy! Reading all the comments just reaffirms those thoughts. I can tell that you have touched so many people.

    We are going through a very similar siuation with my friend Brian, and I can only imagine how hard this must be for you and your family. Please know that we are all still right here with you - friends, family and strangers all over the world. And although we can’t all be with you physically we are certainly with you in spirit.

    You and your family are on my mind constantly. And I pray for your quick healing every day. We all know that you can hear and that you are fighting so hard. Please continue to fight. You have so much to live for.

    And I hope that one day, you and I can meet and have a nice long chat about how this stranger became one of your biggest cheerleaders!!

    You are in my thoughts and prayers.
    Keep fighting.
    Love

    It’s amazing how many people are praying for you and “cheering” for Dustin (as Jamie Corona puts it) that don’t even know you. God has put your family on many, many hearts. We will continue to pray for you and your family.

    Cheryl and I saw Dustin for the first time today. For any who have not seen him, he still looked like Dustin. His right eye seems to want to stay closed more than the left, yet with some effort he makes them both open. When I told him that I was going to read a little Pilgrims Progress to him, and at that moment the first sounded he had made while I was there occurred. It seemed to me that he was trying to say the title of the book back to me, but all that he got to was “puh, puh, puh”. As we were there, he would alternate back and forth from just closing his eyes, seeming to rest, then would open them, and try to turn his head and look our direction. He did crane his neck up, eyes wide open a few times as I was near him with my hand on his shoulder, and now that I think about it, I believe he wanted me to help him sit up, because he seemed a bit frustrated after each attempt (though I did not understand that at the moment). For anyone who has been thinking of going, you need to do it. (room 108) I know now that it will be easier after this first time. I feel so inadequate and incompetent to even visit, as if I was going to screw something up, being a foolish person who is prone to say and do stupid things. My sense is that Dustin is absolutely understanding things, and gets frustrated, down, glad, sad, happy, encouraged, discouraged, etc, just like we all would, so at least for me, that is my prayer for him for now, that he would be encouraged even in the midst of this season of suffering. I am praying that, and that he would be able to get access to help re-habilitate him.

    Blessings,

    Dear Leigh Anne,

    Do you remember a nurse named Karen Dirschel from Greenville Memorial? She had short dark brown hair and asked about the picture of your children? You spoke with her about your husband and his recent sermon. Karen allowed our small group of 24 people to listen to his message. She shared with us about you. She said that you have been the most faithful woman of God that she has ever met. Without knowing you, I must agree.

    God is in control and He knows all our thoughts and struggles. Don’t worry about what is out of our control. A good friend of mine has recently been battling stage IV anal cancer. “Melissa” is a fighter and I was able to send this website to her whole prayer chain. We have all felt honored to pray for Dustin and all of you.

    My father lives in Dallas and I would love to meet you and Dustin one day.
    Your sister in Greenville is praying for you and Dustin.

    Love,

    Dear All,
    I feel like we’re becoming a family bonding over Dustin, no matter where we live or what walk of life we’re walking.
    Steve’s note is of interest to me. I’ve a dear Christian sister who once taught profoundly handicapped kids, mostly CPs. Many of them had trouble communicating, and she was passionate about doing whatever it took to reach the person inside the disabled body. It was the early and mid-80s and facilities like these were only just beginning to use computers.
    That was a tremendous boost in helping her and the other teachers and staff at this school. Sounds like what TBI centers do, only, of course, on a much more sophisticated level.
    Still praying that Dustin can progress enuf to be moved to a TBI center and that there will, at long last, be ins. coverage.

    In the nite watch,

  8. Michele Harder Says:

    Dearest Leigh Anne,

    I think you know we care for my Daddy, who has Alzeimer’s, and can no longer walk or talk. I was listening to a secular radio station on the internet,much to our surprise, they played Aled Jones singing “How Great Thou Art”. My daddy, who can no longer talk, tried to sing two notes of the chorus. My mother and I were shocked. Then his tears followed. All this to say that I ordered the Aled Jones CD to play daddy, but the treasure I found on the CD when it arrived, was this Quaker hymn. Its beauty in song and verse truly awed J. D. and I:

    How Can I Keep From Singing, MP3
    trad. Quaker hymn, arr. R. Swiggum, 1994
    Performed by the WFBHS Concert Choir. (if you listen to this choir on the internet, the tune is somewhat different than the Aled Jones version)

    How Can I Keep From Singing?

    My life flows on in endless song, above earth’s lamentation,
    I hear the real though far off hymn, that hails a new creation.
    No storm can shake my inmost calm, while to that Rock I’m clinging.
    It sounds an echo in my soul. How can I keep from singing?

    When tyrants tremble, sick with fear, and hear their death-knells ringing,
    When friends rejoice both far and near, how can I keep from singing?
    In prison cell or dungeon dark, our thoughts to them are winging,
    When friends by shame are undefiled, how can I keep from singing.

    What though the tempest ’round me roars, I know the truth, it liveth.
    What though the darkness ’round me close, songs in the night it giveth.
    No storm can shake my inmost calm, while to that Rock I’m clinging.
    Since Love is Lord of heaven and earth. How can I keep from singing?

    I lift my eyes, the clouds grow thin, I see the blue above it.
    And day by day this pathway clears, since first I learned to love it.
    The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart, a fountain ever springing.
    All things are mine, since I am His. How can I keep from singing.

    We have signed up to go see Dustin today. I want to bring a CD player to play the song for him. They may not allow the CD player in his room, but we can at least read it to him.

    We pray for you all daily,

    Much love to you all,

    Michele and J. D.

  9. Lyndis Says:

    After reading what Michele and JD posted, I feel led to post this song too. May it greatly comfort and encourage you. Our Lord who feeds the sparrows, cares deeply for Dustin and your family, Leigh Anne. Press on.

    Love divine, all loves excelling,
    Joy of heaven to earth come down;
    Fix in us thy humble dwelling;
    All thy faithful mercies crown!
    Jesus, Thou art all compassion,
    Pure unbounded love Thou art;
    Visit us with Thy salvation;
    Enter every trembling heart.

    Breathe, O breathe Thy loving Spirit,
    Into every troubled breast!
    Let us all in Thee inherit;
    Let us find that second rest.
    Take away our bent to sinning;
    Alpha and Omega be;
    End of faith, as its Beginning,
    Set our hearts at liberty.

    Come, Almighty to deliver,
    Let us all Thy life receive;
    Suddenly return and never,
    Never more Thy temples leave.
    Thee we would be always blessing,
    Serve Thee as Thy hosts above,
    Pray and praise Thee without ceasing,
    Glory in Thy perfect love.

    Finish, then, Thy new creation;
    Pure and spotless let us be.
    Let us see Thy great salvation
    Perfectly restored in Thee;
    Changed from glory into glory,
    Till in heaven we take our place,
    Till we cast our crowns before Thee,
    Lost in wonder, love, and praise.

    Dear Leigh Anne,
    As long as we’re posting songs and hymns, I must admit that ever since I learned of Dustin’s injury, God installed “It Is Well With My Soul” within that part of my heart that belongs to you and yours. Unfortunately, I don’t have the lyrics in front of me, but it’s easy enuf to download them (yeah, riiiight!! of course you’ve got loads of time!!!).
    I guess different people and different situations evoke different hymns. But that’s the hymn that evokes you to me.

    Love to all of you,
    Fran

    Precious Salter’s

    We just found out about Dustin - as I went to WTS In Dallas with my son a couple of weeks ago - and my heart is heavy. As a member of Trinity Harbor Church (PCA) in Rockwall, TX we well remember Dustin’s last sermon for us:

    Someone had broken into his pick-up and stole his precious seminary books. (I have a son, Richey, who loves his books too and I have some feel what this hurt must be like) And then they broke into your house and in the context of his sermon and the context of training his childen to love their enemies, Dustin was very transpartent with his struggle and NOW THIS!)

    So many of us at Trinity Harbor have covenanted to pray for Dustin and his family and for some of us it is a daily burden to pray in “tears” for God’s mercy. As I was doing so as I was listening to some new music I acquired form Krystin & Keith Getty and one of their songs was playing as I was praying for Dustin and it became for me part of my prayers for you and I would like to share the words with you here and hope in pray that in some way they might comfort you in some small way. God Bless You and Have Mercy:

    “Jesus Draw Me Ever Nearer”
    Music by Keith Getty; Words by Margaret Becker
    Copyright © 2002 Thankyou Music

    Jesus draw me ever nearer
    As I labour through the storm.
    You have called me to this passage,
    and I’ll follow, though I’m worn.

    (Refrain)
    May this journey bring a blessing,
    May I rise on wings of faith;
    And at the end of my heart’s testing,
    With Your likeness let me wake.

    Jesus guide me through the tempest;
    Keep my spirit staid and sure.
    When the midnight meets the morning,
    Let me love You even more.

    Let the treasures of the trial
    Form within me as I go -
    And at the end of this long passage,
    Let me leave them at Your throne.
