  6. fran froelich Says:

    Dear Leigh Anne,
Well, the journey’s ended, but not in the way or time you and all of us hoped it would. Dustin is, of course, now healed–but not on earth as we all hoped and prayed it was. In some ways, this is where the real work begins. This is where you, and all who’ve walked beside you, must lean on God for strength for this phase of the journey thru this new, undesired stage of your life.
There’ll be seasons of grief. Not one can be sidestepped if you’re to come out sanely on the other side. No amount of drugs, booze, or other escapes can do anything more than mask it for a moment.
They must be faced: sanely, soberly, and most of all honorably. You know the importance of setting your face “like flint” against adversity. And it’ll be the hardest thing you’ll ever have to do.
But for now, just rest, take it easy, catch your breath, spend time with the kids. You and they still have each other, and that’s such a great blessing. Years ago, there was a rock song that said in part, “And when I die/and when I’m gone/there’ll be one child born to carry on/to carry on”. How lucky you are that you have three!
And how fortunate you are that you’ve a wealth of supportive family and friends. One of my prayers has been, not only for strength and peace for you and the kids, but for them as well. For your journey is theirs as well. And those who stay will also have something to be tremendously proud of, esp. in this desert stage.
Love and prayers from only got to watch and pray,

  7. Bill McIlwain Says:

    Dear Leigh Anne:

I’m very sorry to hear about Dustin. I had not heard about the accident until this morning, and was saddened by the news.

I remember him from his college days at Livingston, and I know he’ll be sorely missed. We recently experienced a death in the family, and even though we rejoice that they have gone to be with the Lord, I know it can still be tough to deal with.

You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

    Sincerely,

William (Bill), Susan, Reagan, and Claire McIlwain

  10. Amy Maves Says:

I don’t think there would be a building big enough to hold all of us who have been praying for you. I wish we could all gather together at Dustin’s funeral and give testimony to how you and your family have ministered to us even in your time of crisis. I join with thousands of others who have come to know you through this and love you. We will not stop praying for you.

  11. Caleb Simpson Says:

Leigh Anne, just wanted to let you know along with all the others you and your family will be in my prayers, especially your children. I pray the will turn to their heavenly father (in the midst of losing their earthly father) for strength and that God would grant them peace. I also pray for the Lord to give you wisdom and courage to help your boys stay strong and grow in their faith.

Just so you know who I am, I go to Christ Pres. in Flower Mound. Dustin ministered to us a number of times when we where without a pastor. He was an encouragement to us all.

  12. Cheryl Babington Says:

    Dear Leigh Anne,

I just have to say this…..you and your children are amazing….you didn’t sign up to be….would give anything not to be in this position to be….but you can’t help it…..you just are. And God receives all the glory.
Remember, you are always surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses, not only in Heaven, but earthly ones too….too many to count….all upholding you in prayer and we won’t stop!! I told my grown children, “I want to be just like you when I grow up.!”

    You are loved,
    Cheryl Babington

  13. The Buckners Says:

    Dear precious Salter Family,
We are yet another family that you may never meet on this side of eternity but we have grown to love you all. It has been a joy to travel on this journey with you and petition our Father on your behalf. And we will continue to approach the throne of grace.
Just to think about how the Lord has used Dustin’s trajedy to lead thousands to a deeper knowledge and understanding of our Saviour’s providence…what an amazing God! Thank you for embracing His providence with such faithfullness and grace. His mercies are new every morning and you have certainly been a testimony of that to us all.
The Lord has used and I am confident will continue to use your family as an inspiration to us all of how to “act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with our God.”
May you and your children always feel the Lord holding you in the palm of His hand!

  15. Suzanne Says:

    Leigh Ann,

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Our Church at First Baptist in Butler, AL have been praying for your and your family. Leigh Ann there are no words to describe you and your childerns loss. Love,

    Suzanne Williams Jackson

  16. Jason Greer Says:

    Leigh Ann,

My wife and have talked these past few months of how much of an impact Dustin’s sermon at Redeemer had on us. We have prayed for you and will continue to over the hard days to come.

  17. Amy Maves Says:

It’s amazing how your family has impacted our lives in Americus Ga. When Sam was announcing to our congregation about Dustin’s death, he was all teared up (and others as well). We don’t even know you! Your testimony and precious family have made you so special to so many. I know right now you’d settle for not being so special and having your husband back. That’s ok to feel. I will continue to pray as I have from the very start- for peace and joy for you and your precious family. Lots of love and prayers from your Americus family!

  18. Sarah Koenig Says:

    Leigh Anne,
I am one of those whom you have never met, but who has been praying continually throughout this time of trial. I now mourn and rejoice with you all for Dustin’s sake, and continue to pray for your family.

  19. Alan Balser Says:

    Dear Leigh Anne,

I have never met you or Dustin but, through my pastor David Rea, I feel like I know you. My wife Pam and I often pray for you and your children. Just know that you are being lifted up to the great healer by many you do not know.

    Because He Came,

    Alan

  20. Holly Smith Says:

My goodness, Leigh Anne, I can’t get you off my mind today, so I’m interceeding on your family’s behalf. I wish I could hug your neck, but since I can’t I will pray that the Lord will!

I remember my favorite teaching of Beth Moore, where she talks about Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.” She said it is you (and me) who lays your head on our Father’s lap, He places His hand upon your head and applies His thoughts to yours. Beth said it was applying the “how to think about the what.” So in your situation right now, you lay your head on God’s lap and let Him tell you just how to think about what He’s allowed. God’s Word promises that in His economy, it will bring about good. That may not be where you are today…and I don’t blame you. But I pray that He carries you faithfully (as it is in His character to do), until you can walk holding His hand.

I pray many, many (countless) ones will know Christ in their hearts because of your testimony!

Love in Jesus and in His Joy,
    Holly Smith

  21. Cheryl Babington Says:

Please know that prayers are being offered up for you today from my family, and so many others around the globe. 28. Rachel Caldwell Says:

    Dear Leigh Anne,
As many others have said, I have never met you and probably never will on this earth. But I have prayed daily for you through Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentines Day and now through the funeral. My heart aches for you, your children and other family members. Our Lord promises that his grace is sufficient for thee. Your faith has made an impact on many lives and I know it will continue. I pray that our heavenly father will fill the void of your husband and your children’s earthly father. May you rest knowing Dustin is rejoicing in heaven with the father he served while here on earth.
Our church, Lexington Presbyterian Church, in SC will continue to pray for you.

  29. Nan Says:

    Dear Leigh Anne and kids,

Our hearts and prayers are with you. I have met you just once several years back, though my husband knew Dustin as an acquaintance back in our Texas days. We are lifting you up in our prayers.

We are so very sorry for your loss.

Leigh Anne, I have thought of you and your children constantly these past days and all day yesterday. Please know that prayers are still abundant and will continue to be. I do hope we will get updates on your family.

May you get some much-needed rest and lots of special time with your precious children.

  31. Erin and Alex Johnson Says:

Dear Leigh Anne, Nathan, Jacob, and Meredith,

My husband and I had the pleasure of getting to know your [husband, father] during our 4 years at TCU, where we regularly attended RUF. As you know, He had a passion for ministry, and made everyone he met feel like a cherished friend. Before we married, almost two years ago, my husband Alex met with him several times to discuss what was expected of a Christian husband, and they had even talked about the possiblility of him coming to Houston to marry us. Even though it didn’t work out legistically, that memory of his willingness to participate in our union comforts us to this day. May the Lord comfort you during this trying time, knowing that your [husband, father] is looking down from Heaven to comfort us all.
    God Bless,
    Erin and Alex Johnson

  32. Jawan McGinnis Says:

    Dear Leigh Anne,
As others before me have stated, I’ve never met you and probably never will. But, o, how I have cried many tears this past week when thinking of you and your precious children as you are suffering such great a loss. Our congregation has lifted you up in prayer each Sunday as a Body since November. May you be encouraged by our sweet Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Before the throne of God above
I have a strong and perfect plea.
A great high Priest whose Name is Love
Who ever lives and pleads for me.
My name is graven on His hands,
My name is written on His heart.
I know that while in Heaven He stands
No tongue can bid me thence depart.

    Grace and peace to you,
Jawan (and Mitch, pastor of Westminster PCA, Columbus, GA) McGinnis

  33. Lyndis Says:

Dear Leigh Anne, Jason, Nathan and Meredith,

We mourn with you. Our words cannot possibly adequately comfort you but our Lord’s infinite wellspring of grace can. We are trusting in His provision, and His loving hands. Know that we care for you deeply.

We will continue to uphold your family in prayer. Dustin’s sermon and your testimony has been an inspiration and a solid reflection of how we should live as disciples here on earth.

Please take care and leave us details of your address so we can keep in contact and offer support in any way we can.

    In Him,
    Lyndis

  35. Carol Charlwood Says:

    Dear Leigh Ann,
Though we have never met, I have thought about and prayed for you and your
family many times over the past few months. My husband and I will continue to remember you and your children during this difficult time in
your lives. Mere words are inadequate to convey our heartfelt sadness for you but I know THE WORD will be faithful to your family in these days and months ahead. May the Lord bring you much comfort and solice now and in
the future, my sister in Christ.

  36. Jean Coates Says:

    Dear Leigh Ann and families,

You have constantly been in my thoughts and prayers for these four months. I rejoice with you that Dustin is no longer suffering the effects of his injury in this world and whole again with Jesus, but my heart breaks with you at the loss you and the children must feel. I pray that the peace of Christ that truly passes all understanding (knew that for the first time when my father died) will comfort you during all the days ahead. I pray too for God’s continued guidance as you make decisions about your future.

  38. Tena George Says:

Dear Leigh Anne, Jason, Nathan and Meredith,
What can I say? I have never met you, yet I have a great love for each of you! It has been a long and difficult road, yet you have all walked it bravely and with great faith. Dustin has left such an incredible, godly legacy! I have so often been reminded of the legacy that Jim Elliot, Nate Saint, and the other missionaries that were killed by the Waodani left - and the incredible miracles that followed their death. Although it is so difficult to reconcile, I know that God WILL, even in Dustin’s death, continue to use Dustin and each of you to bring glory to Himself. You have been so faithful to Him - He will be ever so faithful to you! My love and my continued prayers are with you.
    A sister in Christ,

God’s hand is on you, girl!! I cannot stop praying for you. There is not a day that goes by that I am not thinking of you and asking God to make his presence known to you. I’m so glad that I got to listen to Dustin’s message. What an awesome man he was. — I understood what he meant about Livingston. That just made me chuckle to myself. It is where I met my soulmate as well, but also wonderful friends like you. Even though we don’t get to talk that much or see each other very often, I care so much for you and your family. You guys will always be special to us.

    Dear Leigh Anne,

Today I read a clear, concise statement from Dallas Willard, “Today I have God and He has the provisions.” One day at a time, sweet Jesus.

    Wrapped in love and prayer,
    Cheryl Babington

  22. Elaine Granger Says:

Leigh Anne, Eventhough we will probably never meet on this earth, I feel that I have known you personally, I grieved for you and your family, and will continue praying for you. I hope you will keep us updated on how you are doing.

  23. Catherine Says:

    Leigh Anne,
I have prayed for you and your precious children ever since the accidendt and now I weep with you over the loss of your husband. I pray that you will fully experience the peace of Christ as you walk through the shadow of the valley of death. I also pray that the Lord would give you an extra measure of strength and courage as you love on your little ones.
    Catherine

  24. Amy Maves Says:

Praying for you and your family on this difficult day.

  25. Kit Standridge Says:

Leigh Anne and all the Salter and Taylor families,
Please know that prayers are being offered up for you today from my family, and so many others around the globe. Your faithfulness and willingness to trust the Father has led me to worship the Lord more and to wonder at His ways. We will probably never meet, but I praise our Father for Dustin’s life and the glory He is bringing to Himself even now. Our hearts are with you on this most difficult of days, and our prayers will continue for you in the months ahead.

    Dear Leigh Anne,

Even though I can’t be with you right now I want you to know that I am greatly there in spirit, heart, soul, and mind.

    Kim

May God’s peace be with you as faithfully you follow Him.
    Grace and peace,
Nancy (and Shawn, pastor of North Ridge PCA in Calgary, AB) Doud

  30. Suzanne Greene Says:

Leigh Anne, I have thought of you and your children constantly these past days and all day yesterday. Please know that prayers are still abundant and will continue to be. I do hope we will get updates on your family.

Again, McLean Rorebeck is my daughter’s Furman roommate, Jordan Greene. I now pray for McLean and Matt’s safe return to S.C. from Texas and the same for all those heading in different directions as they leave you.

    In Him,
    Lyndis

  34. Amy Maves Says:

Continuing to pray over here in Americus. Please tell my boys how much I think about them and that I am still praying. You are so special to so many. May God hold you tight during this difficult time.

May God bless each of you,
    Jean

    A sister in Christ,
    Tena

  39. Georgia Holderby Says:

    Leigh Anne,

God bless you. I only heard of the news this past Tuesday evening, and I’ve prayed for you and your children since. I met Dustin at Greystone this past summer. I must say that he was a breath of fresh air to talk with. I saw Christ’s love in Dustin. May God bless you, sincerely, during this time. Your family will remain in my thoughts and prayers.

  43. Tiffani Hood Says:

Oh my goodness, Leigh Anne!!! I have just had the opportunity to listen to Dustin’s sermon on Providence. How wonderful it was. How ironic it was! I just cried and cried.

    Love you,
    Tiffani
