Mercy & Mission

Renewing our Community

Ministries of Mercy are the primary way we participate in renewing our community. The church is God’s tool for bringing about wholesale change to the world. So, we are committed to meeting the physical needs of the poor and needy in our church and community in a variety of ways.

We continue to have opportunity to be involved with Duncan Chapel Elementary school. This summer we were able once again to open the doors and parking lot of our building to the Communities in Schools children. This was a summer activity program for children of impoverished families funded by United Way.  Because Greenville County schools are closed on Fridays, the children needed an alternate meeting place for six weeks. Most Fridays they met at our building and then got on a bus for a weekly field trip.  They were great to have in the building!

We are also hosting Strides Tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is a grant supported tutoring service to children and families who would not otherwise be able to get the tutoring they need. The cost is based on income and some scholarships are available. Sunshine & Frances & tutor one child at a time in reading and math. Our own Jennifer Thompson has trained and is tutoring now as well. For specific information contact Dr. Gail Everett, or visit their website.
